Post-Korra Avatar May Have Been Teased In Avatar Generations Easter Egg

The post-Korra Earth Avatar is likely revealed by an Avatar Generations easter egg found in an artwork present in the upcoming game.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise might have had its next Avatar — after Korra — revealed by an easter egg in the upcoming Avatar Generations game. Avatar: The Last Airbender birthed a whole new universe where certain characters have the power to bend the four elements — Water, Earth, Fire, and Air — to their will. The cartoon became a popular Nickelodeon show, which led to the spin-off show Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Korra was the next Avatar in the cycle following the original cartoon’s Aang. Now, an Earth Avatar series following Korra is reportedly in the works.

Avatar News (via CBR) pointed out on Twitter that the Avatar Generations mobile game might have included the first look at the next Earth Avatar as an easter egg.

Avatar: The Last Airbender included Avatars before Aang, with the lead character discovering more about his past lives and how to commune with them. The original series then opened up possibilities for new Avatars, like Korra, to follow Aang after the show’s end. Aang appears in the game artwork for its rewards section, with a small medallion at the top of his image — which contains the silhouettes of Korra and what could be the next Earth Avatar.

Everything We Know About The Future Of The ATLA Franchise

Recently, a report has claimed that The Legend of Korra‘s follow-up animated series, focusing on the new Earth Avatar, is in development by Paramount and Avatar Studios for a 2025 release. No official sources have corroborated the report so far, but there is a reasonable possibility of the next Avatar in the timeline getting a show. Avatar Studios was announced by Nickelodeon in 2021, as a division that plans to create many animated series and movies based on the Avatar world. Animated shows, such as the rumored Earth Avatar cartoon, are part of Avatar Studios’ plan for the franchise.

Another important part of Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s media expansion comes from an announced trilogy of standalone animated movies set to be released in theaters in the coming years. The first movie will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, who worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender, with the show’s co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino producing all three theatrical movies. The first film’s focus is the best possible choice — the return of the Gaang. Avatar Aang and his friends were revealed to be the movie’s main characters at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, with the film following the Gaang as young adults.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise may also revisit Gaang through the upcoming live-action Netflix series. The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series is led by showrunner Albert Kim, as the new adaptation hopes to redeem the critically-panned live-action movie adaptation with eight one-hour episodes – no release date has been confirmed yet. The cartoon’s original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, were initially set to lead the Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender show before leaving the project over creative differences. Audiences will see how Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series compares to the cartoon when it debuts at the streamer.
