Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson writes an emotional message to his mother after she survived a car crash. The Rock’s mother, Ata Johnson, is currently 74 years old. The daughter of wrestling legend Peter Maivia, Ata Johnson comes from a long line of wrestlers, impacting The Rock himself, who became famous through wrestling.
Now, Dwayne Johnson reveals on Instagram that his mother was in a terrifying car crash.
According to Johnson’s post, Ata Johnson was involved in a car crash in Los Angeles at 3:00 am on Thursday morning. Dwayne Johnson shared a picture of his mom’s bright red car with the passenger door smashed in. Despite the intense damage to this car, The Rock reported that his mother survived. He thanked the LAPD and LAFD and paid tribute to his mother’s incredible resilience over the years, as someone who has “survived lung cancer, tough marriage, head on collision with a drunk driver, and attempted suicide.”

Ata Johnson is known to viewers from her fictionalized role on the TV series Young Rock. Young Rock is Dwayne Johnson’s autobiographical TV series. Featuring just about every main player in his life, Young Rock includes Ata Johnson being played by actress Stacey Leilula. Leilula plays Ata Johnson compassionately, and given The Rock’s influence over the Young Rock show, it is clear that his deep love for his mom extends well beyond this gratitude post on Instagram. Young Rock has been a minor success thus far and is currently in its third season, which began on November 4, 2022 and will continue through the beginning of this year.
Other than Young Rock, Johnson has a litany of projects on the horizon for 2023 and beyond. This year, he is set to star in the adventure-comedy Red One. The plot is as of yet under wraps for Red one, but co-stars include Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, and J.K. Simmons playing Santa Claus. Johnson will also feature in WWE 2K23, an upcoming wrestling video game in which he will be the voice of his own wrestling presence.

Johnson’s film slate does not stop there. Johnson is both rumored and confirmed to be in a number of other high-profile films in the coming years. This includes Robert Zemeckis’ The King, and action films Doc Savage and San Andreas 2. Johnson will not, however, appear alongside former co-stars in Fast & Furious sequel Fast X. Nonetheless, Johnson’s upcoming years are on track to be busy.
