Star Anthony Ramos teases how Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will expand the world of the franchise with both new and returning characters.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts star Anthony Ramos teases how the upcoming sequel will expand the world of the hit action franchise. Serving as the seventh installment in the live-action Transformers franchise so far, director Steven Caple Jr.’s upcoming film acts as a loose sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee. The movie is once more based on the popular Hasbro line of toys with a storyline that is primarily influenced by Transformers: Beast Wars, which follows the continuity established by Transformers: Generation 1.

Although the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts release date is still quite far off, Ramos recently revealed more of what audiences can expect from the movie in a recent interview with ET. The actor teases that the upcoming sequel will be quite a departure from the Transformers movies that have come before it, due in large part to some of the exciting new characters that will be introduced. Check out Ramos’ full comment below:

“It’s amazing. It’s different. It’s a lot of green screen, a lot of action and not a live audience, but it’s fun, man. Our movie’s different. Steven Caple Jr., who directed Creed 2, he’s got a vision. He’s expanding the world. We’ve got the beast wars now. Dominique Fishback, who’s also from Brooklyn — I’m co-starring with her, and we’ve got the new characters, Optimus Primal, Cheetor, a bunch of new characters and all the OG ones — Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee, so, we’re expanding the world.”

After Transformers: The Last Knight proved to be something of a disappointment, Bumblebee served as a reboot of the franchise, introducing a new hero played by Hailee Steinfeld and telling a more contained story. While Steinfeld’s character doesn’t seem to be returning in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the new sequel will feature the return of Bumblebee. Optimus Prime, who has played a central role in all previous movies in the franchise aside from his more minor role Bumblebee will also be returning, once again voiced by Peter Cullen.

In addition to the returning characters and factions like the Autobots and the Decepticons, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is also introducing several new factions, including the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons. Both the Predacons and Terrorcons will serve as the main antagonists in the upcoming sequel alongside the Decepticons, with Peter Dinklage’s Scourge set to be the big bad. Unlike Autobots and Decepticons, which take the form of various land, air, and sea vehicles, Maximals, Terrorcons, and Predacons frequently elect to turn into animals.

In addition to Ramos and Dinklage, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts features an impressive cast, including the likes of Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal, Michelle Yeoh as Airazor, Pete Davidson as Mirage, John DiMaggio as Stratosphere, Michaele Jaé Rodriguez as Nightbird, and Liza Koshy as Arcee, among others. The movie’s trailer has also teased that the sequel will explore some exciting new locations, including a South American jungle. While Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is still several months off, it’s likely that upcoming trailers will tease much more of what’s to come.
