Jeremy Renner reveals he wrote a goodbye message to his family after his snowplow accident. On the first day of the year, the Oscar-nominated actor and Marvel Cinematic Universe star was run over by his Sno-Cat, a massive plow that weighs about 14,330 pounds, while trying to save his nephew who was stuck in the snow. Renner was rushed to the intensive care unit and underwent surgeries for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, but was released from the hospital just a few weeks later and has been making progress on the road to recovery ever since.

Now, three months after his life-threatening snowplow accident, Renner is opening up about the intimate details of his accident in an interview with Diane Sawyer. In a portion of the extensive interview via Good Morning America, an emotional Renner revealed that he wrote a goodbye note to his family while in critical condition at the hospital, believing he was in his final moments. In the ABC News special, titled Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph, the actor is opening up about the most intimate and personal details involving his near-fatal snowplow accident. This includes the fact he fully expected to die while in critical condition at the hospital, and even prepared last words to his loved ones. The interview also includes audio of the 911 call made by Renner’s neighbor on his behalf, in which the actor can be heard in the background groaning in pain.

These are harrowing details that Renner isn’t obligated to share, though they do give the public an idea of the extent of the trauma he endured.
