Silver Surfer & Marvel Villain Galactus Rumored To Be In MCU’s Fantastic Four

The Marvel villain Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, might be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon with a role in Fantastic Four according to a new rumor. Marvel Studios is ready to bring one of the most iconic comic book teams to the MCU, with Fantastic Four, in 2025. The movie will reboot the franchise for the MCU, following two fun movies from director Tim Story in the 2000s and an ill-received younger version of the team in Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four, aka FANT4STIC.

According to Jeff Sneider on THE HOT MIC, Marvel Studios is set to introduce not only the Fantastic Four in the team’s debut movie but also Galactus and Silver Surfer.

The Hollywood insider also explained some more details that give a good idea of what Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie will look like, saying that director Matt Shakman, who helmed Disney+’s WandaVision, is looking at a big adventure in space for the team. The movie will also reportedly feature many elements from the 1960s, which is fitting since the Fantastic Four were created back in 1961. Check out the full quote below:

“I’m told that Matt Shakman is planning to go very cosmic with his ‘Fantastic Four’ movie. Lots of 1960s elements, and that the film will feature both Galactus and the Silver Surfer.”

Is The MCU Right To Have Galactus & Silver Surfer In The Fantastic Four’s Debut?

If the rumor turns out to be true, then the MCU’s Fantastic Four is about to be a packed movie. Not only will it have to introduce four main characters, but it would also need to give proper care to both Galactus and Silver Surfer, as Marvel simply cannot have another problematic outing with those characters. Galactus and Silver Surfer have appeared in a live-action Fantastic Four movie before. The duo showed up in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, although to different results.

As the title of the movie suggests, Silver Surfer had a fairly big role, with the character being played by two actors. Doug Jones provided the physical performance, while Laurence Fishburne gave voice to the Silver Surfer. While the character was greatly acted and perfectly resembled his comic book form, the same level of care was not given to Galactus. The iconic Marvel villain was portrayed as a gigantic cloud instead of his usual form, which was heavily criticized.

Introducing this many important characters in a single movie might be too much, but at least Marvel’s Fantastic Four is clear of one plot point that might have made things even more difficult. By all accounts, the movie will take the same approach the MCU had when introducing Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Fantastic Four will not be an origin story for the team, likely explaining their absence so far in the MCU but showing that the team is already established. This opens up space for Galactus and Silver Surfer, especially if it is revealed they have already met the heroes before, when Fantastic Four premieres.
