Recent The Lord of the Rings fan art captures the One Ring’s power over Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee. Based on the classic J. R. R. Tolkien fantasy novels of the same name, Peter Jackson took the world by storm with his theatrical adaptation trilogy. Starring Elijah Wood as Frodo, Sean Astin as Sam, and Ian McKellan as Gandalf, The Lord of the Rings films proved to be a critical and box office success, earning nearly $3 billion at the box office as well as the Academy Award for Best Picture for The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King.
Artist Tiia Bee took to Instagram to share their The Lord of the Rings fan art of Frodo and Sam captured by the One Ring’s power. Check out the art below:
Tiia Bee uses pencil to sketch the iconic characters, etching the One Ring’s Elvish inscription across Frodo and Sam’s faces. Within the post’s caption, the artist shares Sam’s encouraging The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers quote to Frodo.
The Future of The Lord of the Rings Franchise
Although Jackson completed his translation of Tolkien’s novels to screen in 2003, the New Zealand director was not finished with the fantasy franchise. Nearly a decade after completing The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jackson tackled Tolkien’s 1937 novel The Hobbit, adapting the book into three epic films centered on Bilbo Baggins’ adventures in Middle-earth. The franchise has continued to expand with new projects in both live-action and animation. It was announced in early 2023 that New Line Cinemas would once again be adapting stories from Lord of The Rings. Wood has stated that he would be open to returning as Frodo.
Although not directly associated with Jackson’s six Middle-earth films, Amazon has produced a prequel series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Set in Middle-earth’s Second Age, thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the show centers on the various major events during that period including the creation of the Rings of Power, the Dark Lord Sauron’s rise to prominence, as well as the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor. Although season 1 was criticized for its slow pace and inaccuracies, resulting in the majority of the show’s viewers not completing the first season of Rings of Power, the show has been renewed for season 2. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have promised changes in hopes of improving viewer retention.
However, Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings franchise continues to grow with an upcoming animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Directed by Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series writer and director Keni Kamiyama, the new film will be a prequel set 183 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings. Centering on the legend of Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox), the movie sees Miranda Otto reprise her role as Éowyn, narrating the feature.
