The Flash movie’s villain may have been revealed in an alternate version of the DC film’s latest trailer. Ezra Miller leads The Flash, the first solo movie in the speedster’s history, which will feature a multiverse adventure for the ages. Characters from throughout DC’s live-action history are rumored to cameo in the movie, with The Flash‘s cast confirming the returns of Batman actors Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, as well as Michael Shannon coming back as Man of Steel‘s General Zod and the introduction of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. The Flash‘s villain might have been revealed beforehand by a new trailer.
The Direct (via @KeiziTV on Twitter) shares a detail that was missed by DC from The Flash‘s Japanese trailer, with the movie’s marketing team failing to edit out a small dark shard from the alternate Barry Allen’s suit.
The detail was not present in the US version of The Flash‘s latest trailer, which points to a major oversight from the team responsible for editing the Japanese version of the trailer. The slip-up makes a case for a long-running theory that the younger Barry Allen that the DCEU Flash meets in the movie is actually the film’s main villain, Dark Flash.
Alternate Universe Barry Allen Is Dark Flash Theory Explained
The Flash‘s Japanese trailer editing mistake lends credence to the theory that the alternate Barry Allen is the villain of The Flash movie. While The Flash‘s trailers have tried to lead audiences to believe that Shannon’s Zod is the main villain of the film, the actor himself has been open about how little time he actually spent shooting the movie, which rules Zod out as The Flash‘s main villain.
In parallel to that, there have been a few toy leaks from The Flash movie over the last few months that have given new looks at a mysterious character going by the name of Dark Flash. Some of the posts containing the character’s visuals have received copyright strikes from DC, which points at the character not only being in the movie, but serving as its main villain. In the toy leaks, Dark Flash has a black suit of armor with multiple shards growing out in different directions. The character’s visual resembles the tiny shard that was not edited out of the alternate Barry’s suit in The Flash‘s Japanese trailer.
According to the theories surrounding the inclusion of the Dark Flash in the movie, the alternate version of Miller’s Barry Allen would grow corrupted by the Speed Force during the character’s multiversal travel, emerging at some point in the film as The Flash‘s true antagonist. The Dark Flash would then try to kill the DCEU version of The Flash for meddling with timelines and making him the monstrosity that he became. That would be a surprising finale for The Flash, using Zod as a red herring.
