Chris Evans Pitches Potential Return In Knives Out Sequel

[ad_1]

Warning: This article contains spoilers for 2019’s Knives Out.Knives Out star Chris Evans has reflected on the way his character could return. The 2019 film, which was directed by Rian Johnson, centered on the mystery around the murder of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). Although it at first seemed to be caused by the actions of his nurse Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas), detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) discovered that the true culprit was Harlan’s grandson Ransom Drysdale, the character portrayed by Evans.

Per ComicBook, Evans recently appeared at a panel at Chicago’s C2E2. During the event, he was asked if Ransom might return in a potential Knives Out sequel. While he couldn’t confirm any such thing actually happening, he did offer an idea as to how Ransom could reappear with an “elaborate plan to actually take down Benoit Blanc and Marta.” Read his full quote below:

It can’t be like a redemption story. No one wants to see Ransom find redemption. Maybe he gets out of jail off of like some sort of like high priced lawyers loophole. But then like, maybe he goes good. Yeah, I mean, like Sideshow Bob, like runs for office. But it’s an elaborate plan to actually take down Benoit Blanc and Marta. It’s revenge in plain sight. You know what I mean?

Everything We Know About the Future of the Knives Out Franchise

So far, only one character has carried over to other films in the Knives Out universe. That would be Blanc himself, who reappeared in the 2022 Netflix sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. However, the rest of the Glass Onion cast was made up of newcomers including Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, and Kate Hudson.

So far, there is only one other Knives Out film confirmed to be in the pipeline. That would be the second film ordered by Netflix when they bought the rights to create sequels to the original film. However, Glass Onion was a substantial hit for the platform, so it seems possible the films could continue if the next film strikes a similar chord with audiences.

While the Knives Out series has not set a precedent for having other characters return, Ransom’s return may be a tempting hook for Knives Out 3. Considering the fact that it may be capping off a trilogy should Netflix not renew their interest in the franchise, Johnson may take Evans’ enthusiasm into consideration while shaping the next story. This could also open the door for the potential return of one or more Glass Onion characters, making the third film something of a victory lap.
