The casting of a new actor as Dom’s son in Fast X hints at a time jump of a few years between F9 and Fast X. With Cipher set to return as the primary antagonist in Fast X, it’s possible that her prior capture of Brian in The Fate of the Furious will have an impact on Dom’s fight against her. With the young Brian set to appear in Fast X, he may become an integral part of the story once again, perhaps learning more from Cipher about how he was abducted as an infant. This could make him a more involved character in the Fast & Furious franchise’s grand finale as Cipher and her new partner, Dante, take on Dom and his family.

The cast of Fast X underscores just how big the first part of the grand finale will be, with Perry and Vin Diesel being joined by Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, and John Cena, among other returning cast members. Newcomers include Jason Mamoa as the aforementioned Dante, as well as Brie Larson as Tess and Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson in an undisclosed role. Reports also indicate Gal Gadot may return as her character Gisele Yashar, who was seemingly killed In Fast & Furious 6. The ensemble cast set up for Fast X highlights just how much of a love letter to the franchise the film is shaping up to be.

Despite the numerous known cast members, however, the plot of the film is still shrouded in mystery. With a reported $340 million budget, it’s likely that Fast X will be the most exciting entry in the franchise yet, possibly topping the moment when characters Roman and Tej going to space in F9. More is set to be revealed about the film soon, though, with Vin Diesel confirming Fast X‘s trailer will be released in February. With the film slated for release on May 19, it seems any questions about Brian’s role, Dom’s family, and new cast members in Fast X will soon be answered.
