In an interview with ComicBook.com, Henwick and Cline share details about how they came to learn the identity of the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery killer. They stated that Johnson isn’t a fan of keeping the cast out of the loop, so the actors’ scripts contained all the twists and turns from the Knives Out sequel’s ending. Henwick compared the Knives Out director’s approach to that of her other jobs, where most were engulfed in secrecy, and describes Johnson as an actor’s director. Check out the full quote below:

Jessica Henwick: You know what, we didn’t actually do a cast read-through. It was strange.

Madelyn Cline: No, never. We never did a table read. I would say [we found out from] the script. Rian didn’t hide anything from us.

Jessica Henwick: Yeah, they did that when I was working on the… What didn’t they do it on? Most of my jobs, they have withheld scripts until the last minute, and often they just won’t give you the end of the script, and it’s just a surprise. Rian is an actor’s director. I think because he used to be an actor. Back in the day, he was a little theater kid. So, he understands how important it is from the get-go.

What To Expect From Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Knives Out was a major success in the murder-mystery genre, achieving critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The unexpected happened when Netflix bought the rights to two Knives Out sequels for an enormous $469 million sum, with Johnson remaining as the director and writer. Before its streaming release, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery played in theaters for one week starting on November 23 — the widest theatrical release for a Netflix film — and set a record for the streamer’s best-performing theatrical release.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery brings back franchise mainstay detective Benoit Blanc, who must solve another murder with a whole new cast of characters, each with their own motivations for committing the crime. The Knives Out sequel takes place on a private island in Greece, home of Edward Norton’s tech billionaire Miles Bron. The movie takes a meta turn when Miles invites his friends for a murder-mystery-themed getaway and someone dies, which is where Blanc comes in. Critics’ reviews for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery have been through the roof, with the whodunit being lauded as a worthy follow-up to Knives Out.

Who Should Be In The Cast For Knives Out 3

The Knives Out franchise has already become notorious for boasting extensive casts with some of Hollywood’s best talent involved. Netflix will want to keep that streak going when casting for Knives Out 3 gets underway. Two major names in the industry that could anchor the cast of the murder-mystery are Harrison Ford & Olivia Colman, given their experience with darkly comedic efforts. Now that Henry Cavill is out as the DC Universe’s Superman and The Witcher, the actor might be looking for another franchise to join and Knives Out 3 would also let him continue his relationship with Netflix. Jenna Ortega would be another great name for the sequel, as she’s poised to become a major star following Netflix’s Wednesday series debut. Finally, Zac Efron could bring back Chris Evans’ energy from the original Knives Out when the follow-up to Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery arrives at Netflix.
