Is “Mr. Highlight” the only fighter in the UFC from Slovakia?

[ad_1]

Ľudovít Klein is one of two UFC fighters born in Slovakia.

Slovakia is a European country with a population of roughly 5.4 million. Among the millions of people, two are currently fighting in the UFC – Klein at lightweight and Martin Buday at heavyweight. Neither fighter is ranked, but they continue to put on entertaining fights.

After earning his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, Buday made his promotional debut in April 2022. He defeated Chris Barnett by a technical decision due to an illegal elbow, ending the fight early. Four months later, ‘Badys’ won his second bout under the UFC banner by taking out Lukasz Brzeski with a split decision. The 31-year-old heavyweight will make his third Octagon appearance against Jake Collier on April 29.

Meanwhile, Klein became the first Slovakian-born UFC fighter when he made his debut in September 2020. ‘Mr.Highlight’ quickly made a name for himself by taking out Shane Young with a first-round knockout. After defeating Young, the 28-year-old went on a two-fight skied by losing to Mike Trizano and Nate Landwehr.

Klein bounced back from back-to-back losses with a split-decision win against Devonte Smith. Four months later, ‘Mr.Highlight’ pulled off an upset win against Mason Jones to continue building momentum. The Slovakian-born fighter had hoped to extend his win streak on March 18, but things didn’t go as planned.

Ľudovít Klein vs. Jai Herbert ends in a majority draw

Ľudovít Klein made his sixth Octagon appearance on the UFC 286 preliminary card. The 28-year-old was matched up against Jai Herbert, who was coming off a win against Kyle Nelson. Klein vs. Herbert featured several back-and-forth exchanges, but the outcome was altered by a third-round point deduction from a low blow by ‘The Black Country Banger.’

If Herbert didn’t receive a point deduction, he would have been awarded a unanimous decision win. The bout was scored a majority draw with the scorecard reading 29-28 and 28-28 x2. ‘The Black Country Banger’ left disappointed as he wasn’t able to secure the win in front of his English fans.
