M3GAN‘s impending sequel has gotten a fake prank trailer where the killer doll goes to France. The film follows Allison Williams as a scientist whose artificially intelligent invention becomes murderous in her devotion to protecting her niece Cady (Violet McGraw). Featuring an ensemble cast that also includes Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, and Jen Van Epps, the film originally premiered this year on January 6.
To celebrate April Fool’s Day, Blumhouse posted a prank trailer for the upcoming sequel M3GAN 2, imagining a new movie titled M3GAN in Paris.
The trailer, which is a twisted crossover between Emily in Paris and M3GAN, features the killer doll traveling to some of Paris’ most famous sights, including the Eiffel Tower. It also includes re-edited footage of her famous hallway dance sequence where she threatens Chieng’s character with a deadly baguette.
M3GAN’s Domination Of The Internet Is Unparalleled
M3GAN is one of 2023 horror’s most vibrant success stories. It has reached a box office gross of $95 million in the U.S. alone. With its $176 million global gross, it is now officially the third highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Part of the reason the film had such a great box office run was the fact that it went viral overnight after its trailer debuted. The scene of M3GAN dancing birthed thousands of memes, driving interest in the film up until its release. The filmmakers later revealed that this was all part of the plan, but they couldn’t have anticipated exactly how much the killer doll would take over the Internet.
The memes eventually expanded beyond just the dance sequence, incorporating scenes like M3GAN’s bizarre “Titanium” lullaby and a brief shot of her taking off her sunglasses. The M3GAN cast has also appeared on various talk shows that have brought the character’s iconic moments to an even wider audience, including Drew Barrymore dressing as the character. This parody M3GAN in Paris trailer is something of a victory lap, giving one last boost to the enormously successful viral campaign.
