Rocket’s teammates need to band together because his life is in danger in the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis from Marvel Studios.
A newly released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reveals Rocket’s life is in danger. Marvel Studios is about to kick off Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and after that, the MCU will release another trilogy capper with James Gunn’s threequel poised to wrap up the story of the original Guardians of the Galaxy roster. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may be an ensemble film, but the movie will heavily focus on Rocket Raccoon as his origin story is finally revealed.
Deemed as Guardians of the Galaxy‘s true lead, Rocket has been through a lot in the last several years. He developed a close relationship with Thor in Avengers: Infinity War and then, he worked with the rest of the surviving Avengers in Avengers: Endgame. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, per Disney’s (via The Direct) synopsis, he will be the one that needs saving. Read the full story brief below:
In Marvel Studios’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Why Rocket Will Be The Most Important GOTG3 Character
Gunn has always had a soft spot for Rocket, so it makes sense he ends the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise with a story that delves deeper into the character. It’s also worth noting that every single member of the roster has been focused on. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 briefly teased the hero’s tragic origins during his intense argument with Yondu, and the threequel allows Marvel Studios to further explore the intriguing, albeit expectedly sad narrative.
Whether Rocket survives Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is uncertain at this point. Gunn has promised a big death or two, so major losses are coming to the cosmic team. But even if Rocket doesn’t make it out of the threequel, grounding the narrative with his personal story is only fitting considering everything he has done for the team in Avengers: Endgame, when everyone else was affected by Thanos’ snap except Gamora. It’s a poetic role reversal that the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy members are scrambling to save him.
Despite his potty mouth and arrogant personality, Rocket has proven time and time again that he’s one of the most loyal characters in the MCU. He supported Thor during his struggles against the fight with Thanos and kept hoping his team could return after they were snapped out of existence. It’s time Marvel Studios gives him the attention he deserves with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s narrative tackling his personal story.
