Who is Josh Harris? Sixers owner heavily linked with $6 billion Washington Commanders move

[ad_1]

Josh Harris is currently the owner of the Philadelphia 76ers but he very well could be the Washington Commanders’ next owner. After Dan Snyder prepared to sell the team, potential suitors emerged and Harris is one of them.

Though he may not end up as the ultimate owner of the team, he has inserted himself into the conversation by putting together quite the ownership group and making a bid that will be hard for Snyder to pass up. Here’s what you need to know about him.

Josh Harris net worth: How did 76ers make his money?

Unsurprisingly, Harris is worth a lot of money. It takes a lot to be a team owner and a person has to have a hefty net worth to be able to own, even in part, two teams.

Though Harris is not the sole bidder on the franchise, he is the head of the ownership group. Based on his net worth, he could finance the bid by himself.

Harris’ net worth is currently estimated at $7 billion, so he’s worth more than his group is willing to pay for the Commanders. The franchise is valued at $5.6 billion, so he’s worth more than the team currently.

Harris earned most of his money from shareholdings and earnings at Apollo Global Management, the company he co-founded in 1990.

Everything about Josh Harris’ $6 billion bid for Washington Commanders

The bid to be the next owners of the Washington Commanders was officially placed on Tuesday. It is the first official bid for the team as Dan Snyder backs away from his position timidly.

The group is led by Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales, the president of the National Gallery of Art. It also includes former LA Lakers executive and current part-owner of the LA Dodgers, Magic Johnson.

There is no telling whether or not Snyder will move quickly to accept a bid or not. If more suitors emerge, a bidding war of sorts could break out.

However, the $6 billion bid the Harris/Rales group submitted is more than the franchise is worth, so it might be the best offer the NFL team will see.
