Has Scream 6’s Opening Ghostface Kill Already Been Deduced By Fans?

Scream fans are theorizing that franchise newcomer Samara Weaving could be Ghostface’s first victim in Scream 6’s trademark opening kill scene.

Scream fans are theorizing that franchise newcomer Samara Weaving could be Ghostface’s first victim in Scream 6‘s iconic opening kill scene. In 1996, Wes Crave brought a new kind of terror in Scream as the Ghostface killer slashed his way onto screens. Each of the franchise’s four sequels has since successfully navigated Scream‘s wickedly meta-formula to establish one of the most beloved horror franchises to date.

Each new Scream installment comes with both a brand new gang of victims and a memorable opening kill scene, and now Scream fans believe they already know who Ghostface’s very first victim will be in Scream 6. Scream fans discuss how Weaving’s presence in Scream 6‘s trailer and promotional footage hints that the star will not make it past the movie’s opening scene. This theory mostly stems from a particular clip of Weaving’s character Laura, in which she is seen talking on the phone, Ghostface’s trademark warm-up act for his kills. However, there are some suspicions that Weaving’s character doesn’t have a last name listed, sparking further speculation that she is not a key player in the film’s main events. Why Samara Weaving’s Casting Has Scream Fans Excited

Grace armed for the hunt in Ready or Not wearing her bridal dress

Weaving’s casting in Scream 6 made waves across social media as horror fans were delighted with the news. With many stand-out performances under her belt, Weaving has mostly been on the radar for a while, but her role in 2019’s Ready or Not made a solid case for the actor as an up-and-coming scream queen. Ready or Not was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who both now serve as directors on Scream 6; therefore, Weaving’s casting is a particularly fun crossover in the horror genre, which even includes a Ready or Not easter egg in the recent Scream 6 trailer.

Weaving’s potential role as Scream 6‘s opening kill should not be discouraging since the scene often serves as a particularly memorable franchise moment. The long-running tradition began with Drew Barrymore’s opening scene in Scream, with Jenna Ortega taking over the mantle in last year’s Scream 5. While Ortega’s character Tara actually survived Ghostface’s attack in the opening sequence, all signs seem to point to an opposite fate for Weaving’s Laura – though it will be exciting to see Weaving take on such an iconic role should this fan theory come to fruition.

With speculations of what Weaving’s role in Scream 6 will entail, all will be revealed when the slasher makes its way into theaters next month – March 10, 2023. The film is also expected to be the longest, hitting a runtime of 2 hours and 3 minutes. As Scream 6 looks to take Ghostface to New York City, the stakes are higher than ever, and just what sort of horrors lay ahead for this latest line-up of stars has yet to be revealed. Despite the uncertainty that surrounds Weaving’s role, the opening scene offers the perfect opportunity for the actress to defend her well-earned scream queen title.
