A new Toy Story fan-made video imagines Andy finally discovering Woody when he’s alive, ruining years’ worth of deception by the toys. Released in 1995, Toy Story went on to become a big hit, starting a franchise that now consists of four main installments, with a fifth now confirmed to be on the way. Woody is a central character in the franchise alongside Buzz and, while they deal with their own array of toy-related problems, they also have to stay vigilant about not moving or being alive when their owner, Andy, is present.

Now, a new short video from Mark Cannataro Films on YouTube imagines the jig finally being up for Woody when Andy strolls into his room to see the toy up and moving around.

Although Andy never actually sees Woody or the other toys alive in the Toy Story franchise, the video, featured above, makes a strong case for what would happen. After watching Woody stroll around for a bit, Woody turns and looks Andy in the eye causing him to faint.

Why Andy Never Sees The Toys Alive In Toy Story

While it’s perhaps surprising that Andy never sees Woody or the other toys alive in Toy Story, the decision to withhold that reveal might actually be part of why the film struck such a chord with young viewers around the world. Many Pixar and Disney animated movies are very effectively able to tap into children’s imaginations, and Andy never discovering the toys’ secret helps to establish that the events in the film could actually be plausible, in a sense.

Instead of breaking the rules of the reality that real-life kids observe and experience, Toy Story creates a new one within a familiar framework. Imaginative kids, then, can believe that their own toys come to life at night or when they aren’t looking, just like Woody, Buzz, and the others do in the movie.

If the toys did interact with Andy and reveal that they are alive, Toy Story could create a disconnect with young audiences who might then question why their own toys don’t do the same. Ultimately, Toy Story remains a beloved movie because it tells an emotional story with relatable themes and compelling characters, but its hints that toys in real life could operate under similar rules probably adds a whole other layer for young viewers.
