Original Tron Stars React To Upcoming Jared Leto-Led Threequel

Original Tron stars Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan react to the news of Tron 3. From the mind of Steven Lisberger, the original Tron movie was praised for its groundbreaking visuals upon its release in 1982 and, over the years, became a cult classic sci-fi film. From director Joseph Kosinski, Tron: Legacy was released almost 30 years later as one of the first examples of a legacy sequel. After a threequel spent years in development hell, Tron 3 with Jared Leto finally got off the ground earlier this year.

Now, at Walt Disney World’s All The Disney Thrills event, Boxleitner and Morgan reacted to the news of Tron 3 in an interview with ComicBook.com. The original Tron stars seemed open to the idea of returning in the threequel, but also unsure if they will be involved. Read what they said below:

Boxleitner: I have no idea. Really, and I’m being honest, and I wish them luck. I think it’s high time they did do it. It’s been a long time since Legacy already. And I think it’s a re-imagining of it, a reboot. It needs that, and it needs it for a younger … This generation…We did it for ours, but they need it. So, I’ll always be associated with it. I was the first Tron.

Morgan: I’m always available because they kept it alive, so I show up and say, “Thank you.” We just walked in there and it was like, “Welcome to our home. Look at what we did. Remember that movie you did? We just put this all together. What do you think?”

Everything We Know About Tron 3

Tron 3 started development before the second film was even released in theaters in 2010, with Jared Leto coming aboard the project in 2017. Though the threequel didn’t get rolling until earlier this year when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning came aboard to helm the threequel, which is officially titled Tron: Ares and written by Jesse Wigutow. Reports indicate that production is planned to begin in August 2023.

Other than Leto, no other cast members have been confirmed for Tron 3. Boxleitner starred in the first two films as Alan Bradley/Tron, and it would be difficult to imagine a third movie without the return of Tron himself. Morgan, on the other hand, played the role of Bradley’s co-worker and girlfriend, Dr. Lora Baines/Yori, who did not return for Tron: Legacy. If any characters are in fact returning for Tron 3, those announcements should come soon with the threequel slated to start shooting this summer.
