Bob’s Burgers Takes Over Mushroom Kingdom In Super Mario Bros. Crossover Art

The worlds of Bob’s Burgers and The Super Mario Bros. Movie collide in a new piece of crossover fan art. First airing on Fox in 2011, Bob’s Burgers has since become one of the network’s most popular animated sitcoms. The release of Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier this month coincides with the show’s rollout of season 13, which will conclude on May 21.

Now, in a new piece of fan art from Sarah Marie on Instagram, Bob and Linda Belcher of Bob’s Burgers take over The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s Mushroom Kingdom.

The art, featured above, sees Bob and Linda dressed as Mario and Peach, respectively, but Bob also has the added touch of holding a plate with a mushroom burger and several Super Mario Bros. mushroom garnishes on it. The Super Mario Bros. Movie references don’t end there, however, with a warp pipe and question-mark block also featured in the image.

Would A Bob’s Burgers & Super Mario Bros. Movie Crossover Work?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been a massive hit so far in theaters, drastically exceeding expectations and earning the second-highest debut for an animated movie ever. The film’s success means a sequel is essentially guaranteed, and a follow-up could explore more areas of the Mushroom Kingdom or potentially even crossover with another animated franchise.

A Super Mario Bros. Movie crossover with Bob’s Burgers is admittedly very unlikely due to the rights issues and different animation styles, but several elements of each property suggest it could work under very specific circumstances. The warp pipe featured in the Super Mario Bros. games often transports Mario to various places that are separate from the main game world, and it’s possible that the plumber could be warped into the Bob’s Burgers universe. Multiversal storytelling is, after all, very popular right now.

That being said, Nintendo was heavily involved in the making of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and has historically been quite protective of the franchise, meaning it’s very unlikely they’d give the green light to a crossover of any form. Although it would certainly be fun to see a brief cameo Bob’s Burgers cameo in a prospective sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it seems more likely that, in the unlikely event of a crossover, it would be with another Illumination franchise.
