RoadsideFlix has released the trailer for Day’s first film as a director, Fool’s Paradise, featuring the actor as a pretend movie star. Check out the trailer below:

Day stars as two separate characters in the upcoming satirical comedy: a stubborn egotistical movie star and a person from a mental health facility who bears a striking resemblance to the actor. The Fool’s Paradise trailer represents the film as a humorous yet scathing look at the filmmaking industry.

Everything Thing We Know About Fool’s Paradise

On top of his acting and directorial duties for Fool’s Paradise, Day also serves as the writer. After a silent man leaves a mental hospital, a frustrated movie producer (Ray Liotta) finds him on the street, quickly noticing the man’s similar appearance to Day’s method actor. With the actor refusing to leave his trailer, the producer uses the ringer as a replacement for a Western feature, setting him on a course for stardom. Inadvertently named Latte Pronto, the accidental actor finds himself the talk of the town.

Fool’s Paradise boasts a star-studded cast alongside Day, including Liotta as the angry producer and Community‘s Ken Jeong as a down-on-his-luck publicist who cashes in on Pronto’s popularity. Nurse Jackie‘s Edie Falco also stars in the film as the new actor’s overeager agent who leads a team orchestrating Pronto’s career path. Rounding out the cast is Jason Sudeikis, Jimmi Simpson, Jason Bateman, Dean Norris, Kate Beckinsale, Adrien Brody, Common, and John Malkovich.

Following the violent action film Cocaine Bear, Fool’s Paradise will be Liotta’s second film released after his death in May of last year. Day recently praised Liotta’s performance, comparing it to Goodfellas, and admitted the late actor not getting to see his first film is his “biggest regret.” Fool’s Paradise will release theatrically May 12.
