The first official images from the upcoming Wicked film adaptation reveal Glinda and Elphaba in costume. Wicked‘s path to the screen has been circuitous, beginning as a 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire inspired by characters from The Wizard of Oz, which was then adapted by Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz into a Broadway musical in 2003. The musical adaptation, which is being split into two parts with the first premiering on November 27, 2024, is being directed by Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (the future Wicked Witch of the West) and Ariana Grande as Glinda.
Today, Erivo and Grande took to Instagram for a surprise drop of two first-look images showing off their characters. Check out both posts below:
