Quantumania Can Introduce A Powerful New Ant-Man Ability

Continuing the trend where Scott Lang gains new abilities with each movie, Quantumania can give Ant-Man his greatest power yet in the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania can introduce one of Scott Lang’s most powerful abilities to the MCU. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Scott Lang has become a celebrity, capitalizing on his fame as an Avenger to make a better life for himself and his family. However, an experiment gone wrong will send the Ant-Man Family back to the Quantum Realm where they’ll be facing one of the most formidable Marvel villains of all time. As such, Scott Lang could certainly use one of his greatest power upgrades from the comics.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

As seen in the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Scott’s daughter Cassie builds a beacon to the Quantum Realm. This results in Scott, Hope, Cassie, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne all being sent to the Quantum Realm, where they’ll discover an entire micro-verse full of various beings. It’s also been confirmed that Scott Lang will be facing Kang the Conqueror, the new MCU villain who is quickly being set up as the next Avengers big bad after Thanos. Hopefully, Scott will receive a new ability to compliment his shrinking and growing powers in this upcoming MCU adventure.

Quantumania Can Continue The Ant-Man Movie Trend Of Giving Scott Expanded Abilities

In the first Ant-Man movie, Hank Pym trains Scott Lang to become the next Ant-Man, teaching him to use his suit and its Pym Particles to shrink down while also being able to communicate and command ants. Subsequently, Captain America: Civil War and Ant-Man and the Wasp both saw Scott becoming Giant-Man, growing to incredible size and strength. Likewise, Avengers: Endgame saw Scott working with the Avengers to time-travel using Pym Particles and the Quantum Realm.

As a result, it stands to reason that Scott Lang will gain a new ability in Quantumania, and it would be very cool if he’s able to shrink and grow without needing to rely on his suit. This is power both Scott and Cassie gain in the original Ant-Man comics, and would no doubt be very helpful as the Ant-Man Family faces Kang in this largely unexplored subatomic universe. It would certainly be an epic reveal on par with Scott becoming Giant-Man for the first time in Civil War.

Why Ant-Man Gains The Ability To Transform Without A Suit

Scott and Hope in the Ant-Man 3 trailer

In the original Marvel Comics, it’s explained that prolonged exposure to Pym Particles combined with a unique genetic disposition allows the Langs to shrink and grow at will without relying on a finite supply of particles or a suit. Likewise, they can also change their density and strength without changing size, something Scott uses to great effect in 2014’s Fantastic Four #16 when Ant-Man rips apart Doctor Doom’s armor with his bare hands. In the MCU, this could certainly allow Ant-Man to take Kang the Conqueror by surprise.

Gaining an advantage over Kang, a difficult opponent for any MCU hero, will be something that’s going to be very hard to accomplish, given his status as a time-traveling despot who’s been teased as having already killed Avengers from alternate realities. However, a unique power debut might just be what gives Scott and his family the upper hand (even if it’s just to escape Kang and the Quantum Realm). While currently just conjecture, here’s hoping Scott gains new powers when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases on February 17th.
