Wayne’s World 3 Movie Potential Addressed By Original Star Dana Carvey

Original franchise star Dana Carvey, who played Garth, addresses whether Wayne’s World 3 with Mike Myers is on the cards. Based on a popular SNL skit, Wayne’s World was released in 1992, following slackers Wayne (Myers) and Garth (Carvey), who attempt to promote their public-access cable show. A sequel was released in 1993, but the franchise has been lying dormant ever since.

Now, in a recent interview with People, Carvey comments on whether Wayne’s World 3 could actually happen. The actor is enthusiastic regarding the opportunity to reunite with Myers for a third film, but it still doesn’t sound like anything is confirmed just yet. Check out Carvey’s full comment below when asked if Wayne’s World 3 is on the horizon:

“Yes, it is. I don’t know. Maybe we’ll do it in puppets. I’m not sure. I’m always game. Love Mike Myers. Just a brilliant guy.”

Is It Too Late For Wayne’s World 3?

The first Wayne’s World movie was something of a surprise hit, raking in over $183 million at the box office and earning generally favorable reviews from critics. The sequel, on the other hand, was released to a more muted response. Reviews weren’t quite as positive and the box office performance dipped significantly, all but stalling any plans for Wayne’s World 3. That’s not to mention the fact that Myers’ career really took off with other projects like the hit Austin Powers franchise.

Now, with Myers close to 60 years old, Carvey pushing 70, and a drastically changed comedy movie landscape, it’s questionable whether Wayne’s World 3 would be able to come anywhere close to recapturing the magic of the original. That being said, Myers and Carvey have reprised their roles several times over the last decade to mostly positive responses from audiences, including most recently in 2021 for a Super Bowl ad. Plus, Carvey recently posted a cryptic Instagram post regarding Wayne’s World, and the comment section was filled with calls for a third movie.

While it’s unclear if a third movie would be any good, it would seem that there is enthusiasm for the two actors to return as Wayne and Garth in another Wayne’s World adventure. Plus, the success Bill & Ted Face the Music in 2020 would suggest that it’s never too late to revive a decades-old comedy franchise. It remains to be seen if Wayne’s World 3 will ever actually happen, but Carvey’s latest comment affirms that he’s very much open to the idea.
