Even the most positive of places can have a dark history, as seen in Trim Season. Hailing from the teams behind the Scare Package franchise and the Stephen Lang-led Old Man, the upcoming horror movie centers on a group of aimless LA twentysomethings who decide to work trimming marijuana on an isolated farm in Northern California, only to become the subject of horrifying events from the farm’s past. Bethlehem Million and Alex Essoe lead the ensemble cast of Trim Season, with Ariel Vida at the helm.
Fresh off of its world premiere at The Overlook Film Festival, Screen Rant is proud to exclusively present the first poster and new images from the upcoming horror film Trim Season. The images offer a deeper look at its cast of young weed farmers who find themselves terrorized by the dark secrets of the isolated estate they’re working on, as well as the hypnotic atmosphere of the movie. Trim Season Is An Epic Indie Horror Team-Up
Though the horror genre has frequently taken to incorporating marijuana into the plots of films, Trim Season looks to be the first to actually feature it in a serious manner rather than going for a humorous twist. It seems more likely that it won’t be a main factor of the story, save for the general location, however with the synopsis teasing an exploration of the dark secrets of the farm’s past, it would be interesting to also see any human antagonists use the weed to reveal the horrific history to the protagonists.
One of the more exciting elements of Trim Season is the amount of independent horror talent both in front of and behind the camera. Million is fresh off of the Peacock slasher Sick, co-written by Scream creator Kevin Williamson, while genre fans will recognize Essoe from her frequent collaborations with Mike Flanagan on Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club, and her acclaimed leading turn in Starry Eyes. The duo are further joined by V‘s Jane Badler, Scream: The TV Series‘ Bex Taylor-Klaus, Synchronic and V/H/S/99‘s Ally Ioannides, Evil‘s Juliette Kenn De Balinthazy, and Old Man‘s Marc Senter.
Behind the camera, Trim Season has She Dies Tomorrow and Synchronic production designer Ariel Vida directing the screenplay that she co-wrote with David Blair on a story treatment from Megan Sutherland, Cullen Poythress, and Sean E. DeMott, the latter of whom is also producing via his Execution Style Entertainment banner. DeMott is joined by Badler and fellow horror vets Aaron B. Koontz, well-known for the Scare Package movies, Old Man and Blood Relatives, among others, through his Paper Street Productions banner, with his partner Cameron Burns on as executive producer, and Paul Holbrook. With James Wan regular Joseph Bishara also composing the score for the film, Trim Season is shaping up to be an epic indie horror collaboration.
